Today marks May 17th or Pink Shirt Day. Pink Shirt Day is an anti-bullying campaign dedicated to celebrating diversity and fostering environments where everyone feels safe, valued, and respected.

There are studies which indicate that individuals who are bullied are more likely to experience mental health issues, including depression, anxiety, and even suicidal thoughts.

Each year, workplaces, schools, organisations, and individuals unite to take a stand against bullying.

While Pink Shirt Day is well-known, its origins are to a lesser extent. So how did Pink Shirt Day come to be?

Pink Shirt Day started in Canada in 2007 when two students stood up against homophobic bullying after a student was harassed and threatened for wearing pink. Since 2009, we've been celebrating Pink Shirt Day in Aotearoa New Zealand, with the campaign growing every year.

So, how are you celebrating Pink Shirt Day today?
